Demarrage studio, founded in 2019 and running in Athens, is a design practice that operates in the fields of interior and product design. The aesthetic approach of the studio is shaped through a constant procedure of receiving influences by art movements like Bauhaus, De stijl and modernism. Its design style can be characterised industrial and scandinavian, focusing on functionality and convenient use. Some of the principles of Demarrage studio’s philosophy, expressed in its works, are minimalism, demonstrated and actualised through rational use of materials where nothing unnecessary is ever incorporated as a solution if that means wasting materials (Clean Design). The term Clean design is investigated through clever symmetry and not redundant use of material, which in turn delivers characteristic results in terms of appearance. Another main principle and idea is that the design, whatever its scale, must be user-friendly and present a visual game that triggers further exploration. By combining simplicity and fun in a design the result is always appealing and attractive and that is an impact the studio expects to create to the people that interact with the end result. Another perspective of the design approach of the studio is to recover and highlight ideas of how an existing object or condition of living can create a new kind of object or a new space that has its own unique beauty.

In 2020 the studio designed the Omino table, a table so elegant, practical and ergonomic that it can fit in any environment. Its presence is so unique and sets it apart in any space that it’s placed, showcasing and interacting with its surroundings, creating a balanced outcome. Its aesthetics are influenced by Bauhaus, incorporating elements of Italian formalism. Its design has borrowed elements from cranes in construction sites, using iron as a building material, thus rendering the object timeless and robust.

Omino, adapting to each space and with ergonomic design, is an answer to the restricted available space of contemporary houses. Its body is made from a vertical element, with the base -as an extension of it- separating into two metallic elements of different cross sections. These, apart from demonstrating interesting design, offer a particularly steady base for the surface they support. The handle that is incorporated on the table surface allows for easy transfer and storage while constituting a dynamic visual element. Nothing on it is redundant, on the contrary, everything is placed in the right spot to serve the necessary functions and attract visual interest.

It can support a laptop, magazines/books, glasses etc., making it ideal for homes and mass consumption spaces alike. Occupying the least possible space, it upgrades through its form the aesthetics and design of its environment.
